Dates for 2021-2022 season
We have some great speakers lined up for this year. Please join us on the second Monday of each month (except for August). Please click on the + sign below for more information.
‘The Changing Scene of Astronomy’
A talk by Professor Ian Robson
A follow-up to the first chat/workshop on astrophotography which took place on Monday, 25 January 2021. These sessions are designed for members who are particularly interested in this aspect of astronomy – but all members are very welcome to come along and attend if they so wish.
Following a general chat about the astro images that members have made since the last workshop, we will discuss managing and organising our photographs and explore how to keyword them, add ratings, create collections and group related images together (such as sequences for stacking and processing). We will then discuss what members would like to learn from our next workshop.
‘The Size of Space – just how do astronomers estimate distances?’
A talk by William Stewart
These sessions are designed for members who are particularly interested in astrophotography – but all members are very welcome to come along and attend if they so wish.
WDAS member Andy Hewitt will give us a talk on his software and set-up technique for taking photographs of the night sky. This will then be followed by a general discussion and any other business.
‘How We’ll Live on Mars’
A talk by Colin Stuart Astronomy author, writer and speaker. (To be given – rather appropriately, on the 60th anniversary of the first human spaceflight).
‘Atmospheric Optical Phenomena: Rainbows, Halos & Glories’
A talk by Dr. Clive Saunders, Centre for Atmospheric Studies, University of Manchester
‘The ExoMars 2022 Mission’
A talk by Rickbir Bahia, Research Fellow, European Space Agency
(Please note this talk will be via a Zoom video conference regardless of the COVID-19 situation as Rickbir is based in The Netherlands)
